Feed Grain Outlook

  • August 23, 2024 – Another week of mostly favorable corn conditions were reported this week by USDA. Nationally, the share rated very poor and poor is 11%; 67% is rated good and excellent. The focus of the grain use section this week is on the feed category.
  • August 12, 2024 – USDA made significant revisions to planted and harvested acreage estimates in the August Crop Production report. Corn area is down but the yield estimate is up. The production estimate for the 2024 corn crop increased by 47 million bushels.
  • August 2, 2024 – Another week of mostly favorable corn conditions were reported this week by USDA. The corn crop condition index of 372 was up 2 points from the week before. Nationally, the share rated very poor and poor was down one to 9%; 68% is rated good and excellent.
  • July 5, 2024 – The corn crop condition index slipped lower this week, down 4 points to 370. The average crop index for this week of the growing season is 372. The focus of the grain use section is grain for fuel, the second largest use category for U.S. corn.
