Dr. Steve Amosson is a Regents Fellow, professor and economist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Dr. Amosson is a native of Eagle Grove, Iowa, receiving his bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Iowa State University and his doctorate in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University. He has been with Texas A&M since 1977 joining Extension in 1985. Dr. Amosson has primary responsibility for the Education/Applied research program in Agricultural Economics by Extension in the top 22 counties of Texas. He also serves as co-director of the national award winning Master Marketer Program and project leader of Texas A&M’s High Plains Water Planning Team. Dr. Amosson has served as project director or principle investigator on more than 60 grants that have supported his educational and/or applied research program. He maintains an active applied research program in Water, Air Quality, Biofuels and Wind Energy.
Steve has been recognized 22 times for his contributions in the areas of marketing, finance and policy from professional and clientele groups. Included among these awards are: Career Distinguished Extension/Outreach Program from both the American Agricultural Economics Association and the Western Agricultural Economics Association; the Southern Agricultural Economics Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award; U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Honor Award of Excellence, Epsilon Sigma Phi’s Award of Visionary Leadership; and the National Association of Wheat Growers Excellence in Extension Award. In addition, he has been recognized eight times within the A&M system for his accomplishments including the Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award.
