Managing Cattle Enterprise Risk with Electronic Animal Identification

There are many different pieces of software that can assist in data management and collection relating to RFID tags. Here is a walk-through of two different possibilities: Microsoft® Office Excel and Cattle Specific Software

  • Excel can be used to keep track of data in a normal table. The benefits of Excel are that it is already on most computers an that it is a program that many people are already familiar with. The downfalls of Excel is that it is not designed explicitly for this use and thus will be hard to control for larger numbers of cattle and determining some statistics.

  • Cattle Specific Software can be used to keep track of data in a more organized fashion for cattle. The benefits are that they are specialized programs that are designed to do cattle book-keeping and should be easy to learn. The downfalls are that it is a new program, so there will be something to learn, and the cost can be higher.
